China's Construction Machine Exports Jump 33% in Early 2026 – Africa Leads the Way with 77%

Walk into any mining site in Zambia or road construction camp in Nigeria these days, and chances are you'll spot a yellow Chinese dump truck or excavator. That's not just a guess – the latest trade numbers back it up.

In the first two months of 2026, China exported $10.69 billion worth of construction machinery, up 33.4% from the same period last year, according to figures from the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA). What's striking is that even with the week-long Lunar New Year holiday in February, exports still topped $5.1 billion – beating the 2025 monthly average of about $5 billion. In other words, the sector didn't slow down for the holiday.

The real headline, though, is Africa. Exports to the continent surged 77% year-on-year. No other region came close – Oceania grew 50.6%, Europe 28.1%. One Beijing-based export manager told me off the record: "Our African clients aren't just asking for price anymore. They want reliable after-sales and electric options. The mining boom there is real."

Behind the numbers is a global mining investment upswing. Guangfa Securities estimates cumulative mining capex will rise 50% between 2024 and 2030. And in Africa, about three-quarters of excavator demand comes from copper, gold and lithium mines – not just infrastructure.

What's changing on the ground? Chinese manufacturers are shipping more high-end and electric models. "Charge for an hour, work all day" – that's what sales reps now tell Indonesian nickel mine operators and African railway contractors. Even parts, crawler excavators and off-highway mining dump trucks saw notable export increases.

For a foreign buyer looking at 6×4 or 8×4 dump trucks today, the takeaway is simple: Chinese suppliers are scaling up fast, prices are competitive, and lead times are actually shrinking. Just don't wait too long – as one trader in Nairobi put it, "everyone's calling China right now."
